BASIEL - Basel Stable Isotope Ecology Lab

We operate a state of the art stable isotope lab. The lab is equipped with one Delta XP isotope ratio mass spectrometers (IRMS) and two Delta V plus IRMS. The Delta XP IRMS is coupled to a flash EA for the analysis of oxygen and carbon isotopes of cellulose and non-structural carbohydrates as well as nitrogen, oxygen and carbon isotopes in bulk plant and soil samples. One Delta V IRMS is coupled to a Trace GC Ultra. We mainly use this instrument for carbon and hydrogen isotope analysis of leaf wax n-alkyl lipids from leaves, soils and sediments. The second Delta V IRMS is coupled to a TC/EA. This system is used for the analysis of oxygen and hydrogen isotopes in liquid water.

In addition we operate an elemental analyzer for carbon and nitrogen analyses in soil and plant samples and a gas chromatograph for the quantification of n-alkyl lipids in leaves, soils and sediments.
