How to find us

The Botanical Institute is currently undergoing extensive restorations. The group of Prof. Kahmen has therefore moved into offices of the Pharmacy Museum Basel located in the heart of the old town Basel at Totengässlein 3, some 50 m from the "Marktplatz". It is easiest to reach us with public transport.

Find us on Google Maps.

Tram and Bus Lines

From the Basel SBB (Swiss) or Basel SNCF (French) railway station, take tram no. 11 or 8  that goes directly to "Marktplatz". From there go towards "Schifflände" and turn left into "Stadthausgasse" straight ahead you will see the stairs that lead into Totengässlein. A couple of steps up takes you to no. 3 the "Pharmazie-Historische Museum" (Pharmacy Museum). Follow the corridor through the main entrance into the couryard and enter the building on the lefthand side. Our offices are located on the 2nd and 3rd floor.

Train

If you travel from France or Switzerland get off the train at the station «Basel SBB». From the Basel SBB railway station take the trams no. 11 or 8 as described above.

If you come from Germany get off the train at «Basel Badischer Bahnhof». From there take tram no. 14 or 6 directly to "Marktplatz".

Car

From Switzerland: Take highway A2 to Basel. After «Schweizerhalle», take the left lane and the «Basel West» exit. After exiting, follow the signs for «Universitätsspital» (hospital). These signs lead you directly to the Spalentor from where you can see the institute. From Germany: highway exit N2/3 «Badischer Bahnhof». Follow the signs for «Universitätsspital».

Parking: Since the building is located in the old town, there are no parking spots on the streets. You can try to park in the neighboring residential areas, but this is often difficult. The hospital parking lot «Parkhaus City» is 5 minutes walking distance, has generally enough place but is rather expensive. We recommend that you park your car on the periphery of the city and use the public transport.

Air

You can fly into Basel airport (BSL) or Zurich Airport (ZRH). From Basel airport, take the bus no. 50 to the train station «Basel SBB». From there catch the tram no. 11 or 8 as described above. If you fly into Zurich, there are hourly train connections to «Basel SBB».
