Misha is originally from Moscow, Russia, where he got his PhD degree in molecular biology (1994). He has been living in Basel, Switzerland for over 15 years, and was employed first at the Friedrich Miescher Institute and later (from 2003) at the University of Basel. Following his habilitation in botany at the University of Basel (2008), he has built up his own research group "Molecular Plant Virology".
He is currently supervising three PhD students and one postdoc and is also giving lectures during the block course Plant Biology.
