Sustainable and Climate Smart Agriculture
I am interested in exploring the interaction between plants and their environment. Plants are unable to escape sudden environmental changes such as drought, salt extremes, temperature extremes, and even environmental pollutants. However, plants posses the means to sense and respond to these harsh conditions by activating internal defense systems or by forming the beneficiary association, such as commensalism and mutualism, with their surrounding environment. My long-term scientific goal is to develop strategies for climate smart agriculture.
My PhD work “Biofertilization and bioirrigation for sustainable mixed cropping of pigeon pea and finger millet" is a part of ISCB (Indo-Swiss Collaboration in Biotechnology) project and during my PhD I shall perform experiments to assess the potential of different pigeon pea varieties to do hydraulic lift, test the potential of finger millet to utilize water that is hydraulically lifted (bioirrigation) by pigeon pea in a mixed cropping system and evaluate the influence of AMF and PGPR biofertilizers on the efficiency of bioirrigation.
